The AI agent

A helper that can read and write in your documents. What to tell it, how to read its answer and how to check what it did.

What the agent is

The agent is an artificial intelligence with access to the documents of the draft you are in. It can read them, edit them, create a new document, draw a diagram — and tell you what it did.

One thing it cannot do: change the approved version. Everything it writes is a change in progress in your draft, waiting for your ✓ or ✗ — just like a change from a colleague.

Give it a task

  1. Click New agent in the bottom right corner (the circle with a plus). The conversation column opens.
  2. Type the task into the field, in your own words.
  3. Send it with Enter or with the arrow in the field. Shift+Enter makes a new line.
  4. Wait. The agent works for tens of seconds up to a few minutes; meanwhile you can do anything else. When it is done, the Notifications bell tells you.
The conversation with the agent. The request at the top, the answer under it: what it changed, what it left alone and why.

Check what it did

The answer ends with the list Edited documents. Each has a Review button — it opens the document with the changes marked. Go through them like any others: ✓ to accept, ✗ to discard. Every change of the agent’s carries a Why (AI) note.

Ask about a piece of text

  1. Select a sentence or a paragraph in the document.
  2. Click AI in the bar.
  3. Choose Improve, Shorten, a translation… or Ask, and type your own question.
The AI menu over a selection. Improve is sent at once; Ask lets you finish the question first.

Background material for the agent

The paper clip Attach a file in the field sends the agent a file — Word, PDF, a picture — along with the task. Upload a larger set of material into the WIP files panel on the left; the agent reads those by itself and they do not get mixed into the project’s documents.

Several conversations

  • New agent starts another conversation. Each has its own task and its own memory; each has its circle in the bottom right corner.
  • Hide the conversation (the dash in the header) only hides it — the agent keeps working and the circle brings it back.
  • Put the agent away removes it from the corner. The conversation is kept and can be reopened.

Model and effort

The Model and effort button in the field decides which AI answers and how thoroughly it thinks. Leave it as it is to begin with; a more thorough setting suits big tasks, it only takes longer.
