History
What a document looked like before, who changed it, and how to bring an earlier version back.
The history of a document
- In the document bar, click the clock (File history).
- A list of versions opens on the right: a short description, the date and the author. The newest is at the top.
- Click a version. The document shows what that version changed — the added parts are highlighted.
When an earlier version is selected, a bar with buttons appears above the page:
| In the app | What it means |
|---|---|
| Take this change back | Undoes only what this one version did. Everything else stays. |
| Restore this version | Puts the whole document back into the state it was in after this version. |
| Back to live | Ends the browsing and returns you to writing. |
Who wrote this line
In the ⋮ menu on the document’s tab, turn on Authors. Every line then shows who last changed it and when; a click opens the version in which it happened.
The history of the whole draft
The History icon in the column on the left shows the draft over time: every version, who made it and what it changed against the approved version. Useful when you want to know what went on in a draft while you were away.
